State House candidates backed by TLR PAC won several victories in the April 13 Democratic and Republican Run-Off Elections. TLR PAC also endorsed Judge Debra Lehrmann, candidate for the Texas Supreme Court, who won the Republican nomination for the Texas Supreme Court on Tuesday night.

Judge Lehrmann has served on the bench for 22 years. She is an accomplished person whose judicial experience and legal knowledge will be valuable assets to the Texas Supreme Court. On the bench, she has proved to be a competent and fair jurist and has displayed the calm temperament and deliberate manner required of judges. She has an excellent reputation for diligence and integrity among lawyers, her colleagues in the judiciary and in the broader community.

In Texas House run-offs, TLR PAC endorsed Larry Gonzales in House District 52, Williamson County. Gonzales won with 71% of the vote. Larry is an articulate and conservative businessman who is committed to the principles of lawsuit reform. He will mount a strong challenge in November. His opponent, the Democratic incumbent, is an enemy of lawsuit reform.

In House District 76, TLR PAC endorsed Naomi Gonzalez, a young Democratic leader who ousted an entrenched opponent of lawsuit reform in one of the most hard-fought elections in the state. Gonzalez, an Assistant El Paso County Attorney, campaigned on a platform of coalition building and restoring public accountability against the incumbent who received nearly $300,000 from personal injury trial lawyers. Naomi is an articulate and principled advocate for her community who promises to be a hard-working and effective lawmaker. Because no Republican has filed for the seat, Gonzalez’s election in November is assured.

State Rep. Fred Brown, a supporter of lawsuit reform, won the Run-Off Election in College Station. Rep. Brown has served six terms in the Texas House, where he has always supported a fair and balanced civil justice system and opposed legislation that would increase lawsuit abuse. He is running for his seventh term.

TLR PAC did not endorse in several other Republican Run-Off Elections when we believed both candidates shared our basic philosophy on civil justice issues. Van Taylor of House District 66 in Plano, John Frullo of House District 84 in Lubbock and Dan Huberty of House District 127, Harris County, all won their party’s nomination for three open House seats. Charles Perry, also of Lubbock and an advocate of lawsuit reform, won the Republican nomination in House District 83.

TLR PAC will work hard to make sure that lawmakers are elected in November who are committed to a fair and balanced civil justice system and maintaining the lawsuit reforms that have strengthened the Texas economy and increased access to health care across the state. We will provide you with updates on the campaigns in your area and ask for your continued support. For more information about TLR visit www.tlrpac.com.
