(Houston, TX) Texans for Lawsuit Reform Political Action Committee announced today that it is endorsing Sen. Dan Patrick in the May 27th Republican Run-Off Election for Lt. Governor.
Tort reform is a bedrock principle in the Texas Republican Party and both GOP Run-Off candidates for Lt. Governor have solid records supporting legislation to reduce lawsuit abuse and assure that the Texas civil justice system remains fair and balanced.
TLRPAC endorsed Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in the GOP Primary, but in determining the best course for the State of Texas going forward, TLRPAC believes that Sen. Patrick has earned the support of all Republicans who want to retain the Lt. Governorship in conservative hands. Sen. Patrick’s leadership on a broad platform of pro-business and pro-jobs issues, including lawsuit reform, has united Republican voters. This was demonstrated forcefully on March 4th when Dan received a commanding 41.45% of the vote in a field of four strong candidates.
Speaking for the TLRPAC Board, TLR Co-Founder & CEO, Richard W. Weekley said:
“We have worked closely with Sen. Patrick over the years and he has always been a tort reform stalwart who has consistently refused to accept political contributions from personal injury trial lawyers. During the last legislative session, as Chairman of the Senate Education Committee, Dan showed legislative skill and statesmanship in producing large bi-partisan support for an impressive array of important legislation impacting the public schools of Texas. We are confident he will employ these same leadership skills on every issue when he is Lt. Governor.
“In contrast to Senator Patrick, the Democratic nominee for Lt. Governor is a persistent foe of tort reform and a close ally of the personal injury trial lawyers. It is time for conservatives to focus on the November election to make sure that the Texas Senate continues to be a bastion for legislation promoting a fair and balanced civil justice system.
“We deeply appreciate the service that David Dewhurst has provided our nation and our State and we trust that he will continue to use his talents and energy for the benefit of our community.”
