Steven Kirkland (Democrat Challenger)
Steven Kirkland is judge of the 334th District Court in Harris County. He was a senior assistant city attorney for the city of Houston, judge of the 215th District Court in Harris County and a city of Houston municipal judge.
Kirkland received a bachelor’s degree from Rice University and a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center, where he graduated cum laude. He has been licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 1990.
Jimmy Blacklock (Republican Incumbent)
Appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott in 2018, Justice Jimmy Blacklock currently serves in Place 2 on the Texas Supreme Court. He was general counsel in the Office of Gov. Greg Abbott, deputy attorney general for legal counsel, special assistant and senior counsel and assistant solicitor general in the Texas Attorney General’s Office. He clerked for Judge Jerry E. Smith on the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Blacklock received a bachelor’s degree in history from The University of Texas and a law degree from Yale Law School. He has been licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 2005.
