Richard Hightower (Democrat Challenger)
Richard Hightower is an attorney and mediator.
Hightower received both a bachelor’s degree and law degree from Baylor University, where he served as notes and comments editor for the Baylor Law Review. He has been licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 1991 and is a certified criminal trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
Michael Massengale (Republican Incumbent)
Justice Michael Massengale has served on the First Court of Appeals since 2009. He is a former partner in the litigation department of Baker Botts. He has done pro bono work in a variety of areas, including consumer protection counseling and other advice to hurricane victims, representation of nonprofit organizations threatened with tax foreclosures, and various constitutional law matters. He clerked for Judge Harold R. DeMoss Jr. on the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Massengale received a bachelor’s degree in government from Dartmouth University and a law degree with honors from The University of Texas School of Law. He has been licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 1997 and is board certified in civil appellate law.
